Visiting Polestar Gardens

There are many ways to visit Polestar. Day guests are always welcome and with a call in advance a community tour can be arranged.  Many come for specific events such as our annual Sacred Music festival Our Adventures in Spirit Summer Program or for our ongoing meditation, yoga classes and kirtans. You can also visit almost anytime either as a guest on vacation, or as an Intern.

Experience Polestar!

A vacation at Polestar is full of Spirit, adventure, community and fun! Relax, connect with friends and rejuvenate yourself in a spiritually supportive and family-friendly environment. We encourage guests to participate in the daily life of the community to whatever extent they feel inspired and many visitors find an energizing balance of sightseeing, spiritual practice, and relaxation.

Here’s just some of what you can experience while vacationing at Polestar:

There is plenty of time for yoga, deep relaxation, and meditation in our lovely Polestar temple, available at all hours of the day or night for spiritual practice. Our daily schedule includes guided pranayama, meditation, and chanting; guided hatha yoga 3 times per week, a weekly kirtan, and longer meditations on the weekends.

We are situated on 20 beautiful acres about a 40 minute drive south of Hilo (on the Big Island) and a ten minute drive to the ocean. Accommodations include everything from tent camping and cabins to single and double occupancy rooms and include full access to the spacious common room (with Wi-Fi), kitchen, yoga temple, spiritual library, beautiful grounds, open air community center (basketball anyone?) orchard and large garden, hiking areas and more. Home cooked vegetarian meals are a shared, daily occurrence: we have fruits and vegetables of every description growing in abundance and making their way onto our plates! If you enjoy cooking you are welcome to join us in preparing some meals in our community kitchen and explore for yourself some of the culinary marvels of the tropics.

Reconnect with yourself, and with others like you

“Environment” Yogananda often said, “Is stronger than will power”. The environment we choose to live in is perhaps the most influential choice of our lives. Life at Polestar is designed to be conducive to spiritual practice, to developing deep friendships with others, and to finding a balanced way of living. Given the pace of modern life, it isn’t easy to sustain ones spiritual ideals nor to make deep connections with others. Spiritual community is a potential solution for both of these difficulties. Daily, we strive to make time for meditation, laughter, service, recreation, and thoughtful talks with friends, old and new. You will meet many kinds of people at Polestar, from those who have lived in spiritual community for many years to the many young people in their 20s and 30s who are drawn to the ideals of sustainable living. Whether you come for a day or for years, you will feel welcome here.

Please note that Polestar Gardens is a alcohol and recreational drug free community.
