Singing Mantras to Plants: A Message from one of Polestar’s Resident Gardeners & Chef David Zuhars

I felt it was important to connect my energy not only with the kitchen and cooking but also with the new permaculture garden. Polestar’s goal is to get as much food as possible from our Hawaiian Permaculture Garden by channeling the vibration of love from God into His beauty and abundance around us.

In my humble way, I contribute the energy God sends through me to the garden by blessing it and chanting the Gayatri Mantra at sunrise each day. I then do a circumambulation around the perimeter and between the beds, three times, chanting the Gayatri Mantra.

Inspired, in part, by the wisdom and discoveries of Jagadish Chandra Bose and Luther Burbank as described by Yogananda in Autobiography of a Yogi, I connect with the seeds when I plant them and nurture them lovingly along the way with touch and chanting, all of which they respond to like any living creature. It is very therapeutic for both myself and the life around me.
