Spiritual Retirement Resources
We have established a Polestar support group that meets regularly to gain more wisdom and understanding about integrating the later stages of life into each of our spiritual journeys. This group includes professional and volunteer hospice workers, social workers, registered nurses, doctors, midwives, counselors and others.
Here are some online resources we have found inspiring and valuable.
Mindfulness, Service and Community in the Second Half of Life
Second Journey is among a small number of emerging social-change organizations helping birth a new vision of the rich possibilities of later life…
The Center for Conscious Eldering
The Center for Conscious Eldering, based in Durango, Colorado, is dedicated to supporting the development of conscious elders. We do so by offering coaching, rite of passage retreats, workshops, and pilgrimages to meet indigenous elders.
The Pioneer Network
Pioneer Network was formed in 1997 by a small group of prominent professionals in long-term care to advocate for person-directed care. This group called for a radical change in the culture of aging so that when our grandparents, parents — and ultimately ourselves — go to a nursing home or other community-based setting it is to thrive, not to decline.
The IDEAS Institute
The mission of IDEAS Institute is to provide solutions that improve the lives of older adults through the conduct of rigorous applied research. Our highly respected staff examine the therapeutic potential of the environment—physical, social and organizational—as it relates to frail and impaired older adults.
The Cohousing Company--McCamant & Durrett Architects
McCamant & Durrett Architects has revolutionized the thinking around Senior Housing design and development. In 2006, Charles Durrett introduced America to Senior Cohousing through the publication of his book Senior Cohousing – A Community Approach to Independent Living – The Handbook (Habitat Press).
The Sage-ing® Guild
The Sage-ing Guild invites people of age to expand inner growth, develop spirituality, and offer service to community—to deepen self-awareness, enhance interpersonal relationships, hone communication skills, and cultivate the value of Elders as mentors and wise counsel in communities.
